Finding and Creating Articles

# Overview

Articles are the core of Polyglatte. They are the content you read, listen to, and watch. They are also the primary way to learn words and improve your language skills with Polyglatte. You can find articles created by other users on the dashboard or by searching for them. You can also create your own articles.

Articles may either be plain text or timed text (text synchronized to a video or piece of audio) :

  • Plain text articles can be created from any text as well as with our Wikipedia integration.
  • Timed text articles can be created directly from YouTube video URLs or with any subtitle file.

# Finding Articles

The first place to look for articles is on the dashboard. The dashboard is the page you will first see when you're logged in. You can scroll through the library of articles with various filters by clicking on the tabs shown on the dashboard.

If you know what you're looking for, you can use the search bar to search for the title or use tags to find similar articles and videos.

# Creating Articles

Polyglatte works best when you're engaged with the content that you're learning from, so we encourage you to make articles from videos and other sources that interest you.

To create an article, click the button on the dashboard. From there, select the type of article you want to create.

Plain text article

To create a plain text article simply enter in text to the body field and specify a title.

YouTube video article

YouTube video articles can be made directly from YouTube URLs or by using the YouTube search bar provided. For best results, YouTube videos should have subtitles or captions in the target language provided by the uploader. Polyglatte has experimental support for YouTube's automatic subtitles which means that most videos should work but the quality may be low. If you use auto subtitled videos consider making the article private until you've confirmed that the subtitles are high quality.

NOTE: when using the search function for both Wikipedia and YouTube article creation, you will have better results if you search in the language of the content that you're trying to find.
